Alter, European Society for Disability Research (AESDR)

Alter, European Society for Disability Research (AESDR) was founded in 2011 by the Editorial Board of the Journal Alter-European Journal of Disability Research / Revue Européenne de Recherche sur le Handicap as an international society with the aim of fostering scholarly and interdisciplinary research in the social sciences and humanities. A particular emphasis is dedicated to the plurality of scientific approaches and knowledge (theoretical, applied, grounded in the experience of disability) provided by this research area. The AESDR is an open intellectual society and welcomes each person who is interested in disability with no exception or particular orientation. Established with a focus on Europe, the society welcomes students from all parts of the world.

The AESDR Conference is planned as an annual event and will enable dedicated research scientists, young researchers and doctoral students to present their work. It aims to provide a forum for a broad spectrum of disability research as well as a place to have contacts and to exchange ideas.

It is expected that this first ESDR Annual Conference will present a range of cutting-edge topics and approaches in social sciences and humanities research on disability (among others: research paradigms, experiences, identities, actors, resources, mobilisations, and policies). A selection of papers from the Conference will be prepared as an issue of the Journal Alter.

Conference venue

The conference will be hosted by the EHESS, 190-198 avenue de France, 75013 Paris.
